أعلنت جامعة براون عن مقتل شخصين وإصابة تسعة آخرين في حادث إطلاق نار.
وأفادت شرطة بروفيدنس، يوم الأحد، باحتجاز شخص مشتبه به. ووقع إطلاق النار في مبنى باروس وهولي للهندسة في حرم جامعة براون بمدينة بروفيدنس، رود آيلاند.
وذكرت صحيفة نيويورك تايمز أن مسؤولي الجامعة أفادوا بأن الطلاب كانوا سيؤدون امتحاناتهم النهائية في المبنى وقت وقوع الحادث.
وأفادت صحيفة بروفيدنس جورنال بأن الطلاب التسعة المصابين في حالة حرجة بالمستشفى.
وفي آخر المستجدات، أعلن رئيس الجامعة، فرانسيس ج. دويل الثالث، صباح الأحد، إلغاء الامتحانات والمشاريع المتبقية لطلاب البكالوريوس والدراسات العليا والطب لهذا الفصل الدراسي.
وكتب دويل: “للطلاب حرية المغادرة إن أمكنهم ذلك”، مشيرًا إلى أن العملية التعليمية “تأثرت بشكل كبير” جراء هذه المأساة.
Two people have been killed and nine others injured in a shooting at Brown University, the university posted.
On Sunday, Providence police said a person of interest was in custody. The shooting was reported at the Barus and Holley engineering building on Brown’s Providence, R.I., campus.
- University officials said students were scheduled to take final exams in the building during the time of the shooting, The New York Times reported.
The nine injured students were in critical condition at the hospital, the Providence Journal reported.
The latest: Provost Francis J. Doyle III announced Sunday morning that the semester’s remaining undergraduate, graduate, and medical exams and projects will not take place.
- “Students are free to leave if they are able,” Doyle wrote, noting that learning is “significantly hindered” by the tragedy.
